    Big island tour

If you are looking for an Istanbul city break with a difference, or a Turkish island beach holiday with some added excitement then look no further than the Princes' Islands.

Turkey may be one of the UK's top holiday destinations, but Istanbul's Princes' Islands are still well off the beaten track for foreign visitors.

Mostly visited only by day-trippers from Istanbul, the Princes' Islands are a world apart from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Despite this, they are only 45 minutes by ferry from the historic sites of Istanbul. The Princes' Islands offer a choice of relaxing Turkish beach clubs so you really can have it all - a holiday combining history and culture with sea, sun sand and relaxation.

The Princes' Islands are a little known archipelago of Turkish islands, consisting of nine islands in the Sea of Marmara, just off the coast of Istanbul.

The Adalar (islands) as they are simply known locally, are the perfect spot for a relaxed Istanbul holiday. Since driving is forbidden on the Princes' Islands, the only way around is by foot, bicycle or horse-drawn carriage, which offers visitors a quiet, natural environment a world away from the noise and traffic usually associated with an Istanbul city break.

The Princes' Islands were first inhabited by a wave of Greek and Armenian Bankers who built lavish holiday mansions here at the turn of the 19th Century.

This is the reason why these tiny Turkish Islands have very little Islamic influence and are, even today, a real melting pot of different cultures and religions.

It may also be one of the reasons that they are so little known within Turkey - making them such a remarkable secret.
